2015, The Year of Adventure

Last year my wife and I made the decision that 2015 was going to be extraordinary. In the last three months we have sold our home and our car, put everything we own into storage, been granted leave of absence from work for roughly a year, and bought a plane ticket.

We live in Norway but have family in the Philippines, Denmark and the US that we don’t see very often. The idea is to travel to be closer to family, while spending time on some of the things that we’ve been wanting to do, but haven’t found the time for in our daily lives.

We all have a list of ambitions and projects that just doesn’t get enough attention. I have five major goals for 2015. They are intentionally vague, but I will spend time on this delving into them, expanding both on what I want to achieve and how I will go about doing it.

Without further ado, in no particular order, my five goals for 2015.

  1. Take a leap professionally
I have had the good fortune to work on a ton of interesting and challenging projects in my career so far. But I have some key areas of interest that I want to devote more time to. I will spend 2015 expanding and sharpening my skillset.

  2. Get my business running
I have always been doing projects and trying my hand at business ventures in my spare time. So far without much luck. Getting something off the ground requires time and effort. 2015 is the year I build a sustainable business.

  3. Join the conversation
Even though I have been blogging and speaking in public sporadically for the last couple of years my efforts haven’t been particularly organized. Now is the time to pursue these activities in a more systematic manner.

  4. Spend time with family
Having lived in a different country from my closest family for more than a decade I sometimes feel that I am missing out. I try to visit them a couple of times a year, but I really look forward to being closer to them for a while, even if it is just for a couple of months.

  5. Live healthier
This isn’t about getting killer abs. It’s about doing the things I actually enjoy, like running and swimming or taking the time to cook food from scratch. I have the time to do this in 2015.

So far 2015 has been about getting ready to travel. We are now getting settled in at our apartment in Cebu. Let the adventure begin!
